Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Brakes 5-8 Review

Today we're going to review part number 5-8. This is the lock washer for the 7/16 size brake mounting bolt for 7 inch and 10 inch brake assemblies. This part is made to work with the other parts that we sell separately. This is the 7/16 size brake mounting bolt which is part number 7-75. It is sold separately. It is listed on this product page as a related product.

The lock washer is made to go on there, and also the other piece that we sell separately, it's made to go with is the mounting nut for the brake assembly for 7 and 10 inch brake assemblies. It's part number 6-17 and that's made to screw on to the . and all 3 of those pieces again are sold separately. That should do it for part number 5-8. This is the lock washer for the 7/16 size brake mounting bolt for 7 inch and 10 inch brake assemblies..

Had to order these separately...the brake kit should come with these.

Very courteous and professional. Timing of shipment is awesome. If delays in shipping, the company maintains updates to the company.
Very professional staff. We are very pleased with this company.

by:

One of the brake assemblies came short two mounting bolts. Installing them tomorrow.

by:

I purchased electric brake parts for a tow dolly. The staff at etrailer guided me thru the selection process and offered a perfect solution. It is nice to have a company like etrailer and their staff of true professionals. Everything had been absolutely perfect one year after install and expect many more years of service from these components. Thanks etrailer.

Hydraulic trailer drum brakes. Received within a few days. Easy to install, not that complicated. Needed a second person to help bleed the brakes.

by:

Hardware was correct and they worked fine for my brake assemblies.

Its holding well

by:

I bought for these brake assemblies. Installation was straight forward and after a year of use and about 3500 miles, they spray to be performing well. My only concern is one of the four occasionally sticks which heats up that wheel. Backing up a short distance seems to release it, but I'd like to feel more confident that it's working correctly.

REC. THE ORDER OF BRAKE PARTS YESTERDAY AND INSTALLED THEM TODAY ON MY 5TH.WHEEL CAMPER. IT TOOK ABOUT 1HR. TO COMPLETE AND WANTED TO THANK YOU-ALL FOR THE GOOD SERVICE ON GETTING THE PARTS SO FAST. WE ARE GOING TO THE LAKE NEXT WEEKEND AND I LIKE HAVING BRAKES. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE GOOD SERVICE AND THE PARTS FIXED THE TRAILER.

The 5-8 lock washers for the four bolt brake mounting flange are an excellent replacement on my 1997 Coleman Fleetwood Bayports popup camper that I am close to finishing a restoration process on. They fit perfectly! Very happy to purchase an excellent product from the fastest shipper I have ever come across. I am blown away by the professionalism with this company!
Thanks

  • Parts Needed to Add Electric Brakes to Triple Crown ATV Trailer w/ 3500 lb Axle
Actually, we have an FAQ article that specifically addresses this. You can see the article by clicking the provided link. You'll need to choose a hub/drum that uses the same inner and outer bearing as your existing idler hub, and the hub/drum would need to have the same bolt pattern as you existing hub so you can use the same wheels and the hub you choose would need to be compatible with your existing wheel diameter. Your axle will need to have the brake mounting flange to provide an attachment...

Based on your Dexter brake assembly information, it looks like you've got the Dexter brake kit # K23-463-00 currently on your trailer. To replace your existing brakes with self adjusting brakes I recommend the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 4.4K, Item # K23-478-479. This kit fits 13-inch to 15-inch wheels and includes both the driver's-side and passenger's-side brake assemblies, adjuster plugs, mounting bolts, and nuts. The lockwashers...

  • Where To Measure to Determine What Size Brake Assemblies are Needed
In order to determine what size brakes you need you will need to measure what you currently have on your trailer. Check out the picture I attached that shows you exactly where to measure. If you are instead looking for a way to add brakes to your trailer that currently does not have any check out the help article I attached that covers this.

  • Replacement Brake Assemblies, Drums and Bearings for 2007 Extreme Megalite 19LT Travel Trailer
For new brake assemblies, I'd recommend the etrailer.com 10 inch Self Adjusting assemblies, part # AKEBRK-35L-SA for the left side and # AKEBRK-35R-SA for the right. For each assembly, you'll need 4 nuts, part # 6-17 and 4 lock washers, part # 5-8. Closely examine the armature surface of your existing brake drums (inside surface that the brake magnet rides against). If the surface is pitted or grooved, I'd recommend replacing the hub/drum so it doesn't prematurely wear the magnets on...

Since your boat and trailer will be used in salt water a galvanized hub/drum is a good idea to give you some corrosion protection. With this hub you can use Demco Galvanized Free Backing Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly # 40716 (left) and # 40715 (right). These are suitable for a 3500-lb axle and a 4-on-4-inch brake flange mounting pattern. I have linked an installation video for your reference. The mounting studs on trailer brake assembly # K23-478-00 are 7/16 inch requiring the 7/16 inch nut # 6-17. You would also want to use lock washer # 5-8. This is a standard size for 10x2-1/4 inch brakes. The outer diameter of the nuts is larger of course so it is not surprising that the wrench you used was larger.
