Weight and Capacity of Reese # 63155 Cargo Carrier

Question:

My question is about the weight the basket will support. I believe the instructions said 300lbs max. My question is how much does the basket weigh? I dont want to exceed the 350 lbs my hitch system claims it supports.

Although the basket has a 300 lb capacity, you'll be limited by whichever component of your towing system has the lowest capacity, whether it be the carrier or the hitch.

Take a look at the sticker on your hitch. If the hitch is a Class I, you'll likely have a 200 lb tongue weight capacity, which means the downward force or weight applied to the hitch could not exceed 200 lbs. This would mean that the combined weight of the carrier (about 40 lbs) and the weight of whatever's carried on it couldn't exceed 200 lbs.

If your hitch is a Class II, you'll likely have a 350 lb tongue weight capacity. This means that no more than 350 lbs can be applied to the hitch. However, since the carrier has a lesser capacity, you'd be limited to the 300 lb capacity of the rack.
