Hitch Cargo Carrier, Cargo Net & Hitch Lock for 2014 Fiat 500L
Question:
I have a 2014 Fiat 500L and need a cargo basket. I have a 1 1/4inch hitch. Was looking at C18145. Would that be the best choice? Additionally, what cargo net and hitch pins would I need with whatever is recommended?

The hitches made for your 2014 Fiat 500L are the light-duty Class I type and in one of these you will need to use a Class I-compatible hitch-mount cargo carrier. One thing to keep in mind is that the combined weight of your chosen carrier and what you load onto it cannot exceed the hitch tongue weight (TW) rating of 200-lbs. This means that a good choice will be one of the lighter carriers that will not use up too much of the hitch capacity.
The Curt hitch carrier # C18110 weighs in at 30-lbs which means that it will allow you to load as much as 170-lbs of cargo without exceeding the hitch capacity. You will want to check your Fiat owner's manual for the car's own TW rating since it could be less than the hitch's rating; the lower rating applies to the overall set-up. This carrier offers excellent value and it both weighs and costs less than the other option from Reese, part # 63155.
For a cargo net you can use part # C18200 and for a hitch lock use part # 2866DAT which works on both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches.
