Using Hitch Adapter to Carry 2 Inch Bike Rack in Class I Hitch on 2014 Toyota Corolla

Question:

I have a bike rack for a 2 in reciever. I see that a lot of people just get the 11/4 to 2 inch adapter. When I install the rack on my hitch it is threaded so I can tighten it up. Is the adapter also threaded?

Using an adapter like the # HTAD you mentioned is certainly an option. However, using an adapter will cut your tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of weight that can safely be suspended from the hitch) by 50 percent. Instead of a 200 lb tongue weight capacity, using the adapter will lower it to 100 lbs. This means that the bike rack and the two bikes carried on it can weigh no more than 100 lbs. The # HTAD and other adapters are not threaded for an anti-rattle device.

Ideally, you'd want to use a bike rack that's compatible with the Class I hitch on your Corolla. This way, you can take full advantage of the weight capacity of your hitch, and won't need to use an adapter.

I've linked you to our selection of Class I compatible bike racks.
