Tips for Determining Square Trailer Axle Capacity

Question:

I found a question that someone else asked about weight capacity of a square axle. I also have the same question about my 1 3/4inch square axle. The outer bearing is Tyson #09067 and inner bearing is Timken #15123. Also, I have a 5 on 4.5 lug pattern and 15 inch wheels. Are you able to help me find an approximate capacity for my axle?

Square axles can be tough to determine capacity. Often times the same spindle fits a range of axle capacities. The best way to determine the capacity is to get the inner and outer bearing numbers stamped into the metal of the bearings like you did. The numbers you listed do not match any of the spindles we carry though so I was not able to determine anything from that. The bolt pattern of the hubs on the trailer is typically used on 2k-3.5k axles, most 15 inch wheel trailer setups have a capacity of about that range as well. The best recommendation I could make would be to stay on the low side of that range.

There could also be a plate on the axle itself that lists the capacity. The most common place to find axle capacity is on a plate or sticker on the trailer frame on or near the tongue. Sometimes its location on the inboard side of the frame.
