Determining the Correct Leaf Spring Length for Trailer  

Question:

Im working on this trailer but the leafspring springs look to long its a double eye the center from eye to eye is 26 the leaf spring center is 28 1/2 the width of the leafspring is 1 3/4 it is 3 leaf the axle doesnt say what its weight capacity is Im assuming 2000 does it have the right leafsprings

There is no exact way to determine the leaf spring length. The best way to determine the length for a replacement is by measuring the existing leaf springs. The hanger distance and shackle length can help you get a good idea, but you're looking at an approximation. Those leaf springs appear to be in good shape, so assuming they are factory leaf springs I would continue to use them.

When installed, the shackles in the rear should be in a position that will allow the suspension to move. If the shackles are forced all the way to the back and can't move then they are in fact too long. If that is the case, you will need a shorter leaf spring like the # SP-113275.
