When choosing a brake controller, I would recommend you go with a proportional controller. A proportional controller will sense how quickly and at what intensity the tow vehicle is braking, and will send the appropriate amount of voltage to the trailer brakes so that the vehicle and the trailer stop at the same rate.
The Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885 is one of our best sellers because it is very simple to set up and use. The method used to install the controller will depend on the tow vehicle itself. Most late model full size trucks have a port or bare tow package wires under the dash for installing a brake controller. If your truck has the port under the dash, we offer vehicle-specific Brake Controller Wiring Adapters that would wire to the controller and allow you to plug it in under the dash.
If your vehicle does not have the provision for plugging in a controller, we offer a Hardwired Brake Controller Installation Kit. If the trailer has a 7-way connector, you would want to use part # ETBC7. If the trailer uses the 6-way connector, use part # ETBC6.
The particular brake assemblies needed will depend on the capacity of the axle you are using and the size of the wheels on the trailer.
