Trailer Wiring Harness Options for a 1997 Toyota Camry
Question:
I have a trailer hitch on my 1997 Camry but no wiring. I can see a little bit where there is a piece of wiring harness over the back wheels in the trunk. Im fairly handy and have done small electronics soldering, but Id really rather not get in to doing that kind of thing on my car. Is there a plug-and-play type thing I can do, or would I be better off buying the kit and taking it to a garage or something? the kit Im looking at is C56175: Curt Circuit Protected Converter w/ SMT Thanks very much!

There is a T-connector wiring harness for your 1997 Toyota Camry. You can use wiring harness # C55358. It just plugs in line with the tail light wiring and grounds to a clean metal surface. I have included a link to a video showing installation on a 1998 Camry and the process will be the same on your 1997. I have also linked the instructions for you.
To install the Curt harness # C56175, you would still need access to the tail light wiring on the vehicle. But you would need to use a circuit tester, such as # 3808, to test the wires and then use the included quick splice connectors to splice into the vehicle wiring. This is definitely something you could do at home or a shop could do it if you are not comfortable with the process. I have linked the instructions for this harness as well.
But if it were me I would just go with the T-connector, # C55358, which is much easier and faster.
