Recommended Hub's and Brakes for a Rockwell 3,500 lbs Axle
Question:
I have a Rockwell 3500# axle with 15 wheels that does not have brakes on it now. I am looking to install a break-way brake set up on the trailer. The axle has plates behind the hubs for mounting the brakes. Can you recommended the correct brakes, hubs and controller for this axle?

I would be happy to! Rockwell was bought out by Axletek years ago so we know their axles are compatible with Dexter hubs like item # 84546UC3-EZ. The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly item # AKHD-545-35-K you were already looking at is exactly what you need though and that's what I recommend using. These have a 5 on 4-1/2 lug pattern and will work with wheels up to 15". They are sold individually.
For brake assemblies you can pick up the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes item # 23-468-469 if you are interested in the Nev-R-Adjust feature which means they break themselves in and you don't have to mess with them. We also have the more affordable option of the etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes item # AKEBRK-35-SA. These have to be manually adjusted and broken in. Both fit a 4 bolt mounting flange.
The rest of the parts you will need to control your brakes and run a breakaway box are listed below:
Mounting Bolts and Hardware for 10" Brake Assemblies item # BRKH10A
Trailer Wiring Junction Box item # 38656
7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 4' Long item # H20043 or item # HM20041 for a longer 8' cable
Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger - item # 20400
10 Gauge Primary Wire - Blue - per Foot item # 10-1-1
Additionally, your vehicle will also need to have a 7-way connector and trailer brake controller installed to power the new brakes. If you do not have these currently please feel free to email me back directly with the year, make, and model of your tow vehicle and I would be happy to find those parts for you.
