Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Harness Shorting Out on a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Sport Wagon
Question:
I purchased a 4X8foot utility trailer. I had the hitch and wiring installed by U-Haul. I have gone through two power converters Curt Brand and associated wiring. When the last one fried, I thought my car was on fire! Obviously Im done with U-Haul. However, they did state that this model of Subaru has had problems with power converters. Can you recommend the proper converter for my application? Thank you.

First thing you need to do is figure out where the short is on your 4x8 trailer and fix it before you install another wiring harness on your 2002 Subaru Impreza otherwise you will just fry another converter. That's why you are having problems, it has nothing to do with your vehicle.
Once you get that situation figured out I would recommend you go with another Curt wiring harness. The correct one for your vehicle is part # C59496. The Curt units use a more modern circuit board than other brands so we have found they tend to have less issues and resist shorting out better.
