Are Towing & Tongue Weights Correct For Trailer Hitches on 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5
Question:
Hello, you have 2 hitches listed for the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The Curt and the Draw Tite. The curt shows: 250 Pound Tongue Weight 2500 Pound Towing The draw tite shows: 300 Pound Tongue Weight 2000 Pound Towing Is it possible that there is a mistake in those specs? Why would the draw tite have a lower towing rating when it has a higher tongue weight?

Good question, so I double-checked the capacities with the manufacturers for the Draw-Tite and Curt hitches that fit your 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5, and verified for you they are correct:
- 2,500 lbs Towing/250 lbs Tongue Weight: Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C98DR
- 2,000 lbs Towing/300 lbs Tongue Weight: Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT27YR
While I don't know the specific engineering reasons behind the slight differences, I can tell you that manufacturers have their own testing procedures to determine the capacities of their hitches. It is also not uncommon for them to have hitches with different capacities for the same vehicle.
Apart from that, these are very similar hitches, with even the install being the same for both. So if you needed the added towing capacity of the Curt go with that hitch, or the extra tongue weight for the Draw-Tite then that go with that hitch. Otherwise, just go with the better price. And if you do plan on towing and need a 4-way connector the correct fit for your '24 Ioniq 5 is the T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C59NR.
