How to Trim Underbody Panel When Installing Curt Hitch on 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5

Question:

I installed the Curt C98DR on my 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL AWD. The process was fairly painless but Im a bit confused on how to cut the filler trim panel to fit it back on the car. The included diagram shows a 3-3/4inch wide cut but gives no depth dimension. Do I remove the entire 3-3/4inch center section and end up with two separate filler panels? Or is it a U-shaped cut out? If so, how deep? And is the front or rear section left intact? I dont see how it could be a rectangular hole cut and still slip over the safety chain tabs. Thanks for your help.

Expert Reply:

When finishing up the installation of your # C98DR you will completely remove the outlined section of the underbody panel. This will leave you with two separate panels to go on either side of the receiver. Make sure you measure 1-1/2" in from each of the mounting holes so you are still able to reattach the panels after trimming.
