What Grease Should Be Used With The Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # e43SR?
Question:
I just purchased and installed Item # e43SR. Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - Easy Grease - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 89inch Long - 3,500 lbs - Question 1. Since the bearings came installed in the hubs and pre-greased, I simply slide the hub on the axle and tightened the hub down. I Did NOT put any grease on the bare axle since the bearings came pre-greased. A Should I have greased the bare axle before installing the Hub? What is the issue if i didnt? B should i also use a zurk grease gun and Grease then after install? The bearings came pre-greased so What needs grease and what doesnt on this new install? Question 2: Do I need to manually adjust these trailer brakes by tightening the adjuster wheel on the backside of the brake housing? I have read both yes and no on your site. ...Do I do the manual adjustment ?? or... do u go to a parking lot and perform multiple stops and that adjusts them? its not clear to me what process is needed.

For the Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # e43SR you do not need to grease the spindle before applying the hub. It is important to fill the hub with Grease # L11390 to ensure the bearings always have grease. You need to use a lithium complex grease but it will not matter if they are different colors as long as they have the same base formula.
The brakes do require manual adjustment for initial setting and also as the brakes wear. The adjusters are behind the plastic covers in the backing plate on the drum. A Brake Adjustment Spoon # W80630 will make adjusting the brakes easier. I have linked our help article near the bottom of the page which covers the adjustment process as well as how to bed in the brakes.
