Is there a 12 Inch Trailer Tire that is Rated for 80 Miles Per Hour

Question:

We just bought a utility trailer for our camping gear andd kayaks. Weight isnt an issue, but speed is. The trailer came with 12 inch tires are rated for 55 mph. Freeway speeds here are 70 mph and in some places 80 mph. We frequently travel seven hours to get to where we camp. Most of it is all freeway at those high speeds. Is there a trailer tire that can handle those speeds for that length of time. Thank you.

The 12 inch tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour. Any faster than that for extended periods and the excessive heat build up will cause tire failure. To get a tire with a higher speed rating you would have to go up in size. That also means you will need different wheels.

If your hubs use a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern then tire and wheel combo # TA43RR is one option. This tire has an M speed rating which means it is rated for 81 miles per hour. The size is a 175/80-13. It is 6.97 inches wide and 24.02 inches tall. If you have the space all around the existing tires for the larger size then this is the best solution.
