Will Titan BrakeRite SD Adapter for Ford/Chevy Brake Controllers # T4845900 Work on 2010 Dodge 3500

Question:

First question - If I install this on the trailer that has Electric/Hydraulic brakes so it will work with our 2013 GMC 3500 Duramax, will it also work with my 2010 Dodge 3500? The Dodge works as it is now without any modification. Second - Is this solution equally as good or better than adding another brake controller and bypassing the factory installed one on the Duramax? Thanks

The Titan BrakeRite SD Adapter for Ford/Chevy Brake Controllers # T4845900 that you referenced is intended for use with Ford and Chevy OEM brake controllers but not those supplied by Dodge.

It is quite common for our customers to choose to replace their OEM brake controller with an aftermarket unit such as the popular Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. Typically the performance and broad compatibility of this and similar controllers (that work well with both electric and EOH brakes) make them better options than using adapters to allow the OEM controllers to operate properly. Using a P2 or comparable unit results in a simpler set up and does not cost too much more than the adapter.

If you wish you can use one P2 in both vehicles by installing a mounting bracket and wiring harness in both to allow easy transfer of the P2 between trucks. You can use mounting pocket part # 7686 for the second vehicle.

You can use part # 3021-P for the 2010 Ram 3500; this harness plugs in to the under-dash brake controller port. You can use the pigtail harness included with the P2 for hard-wired installation in the Ram 3500. If you prefer a longer pigtail you can use part # 7894 which is 34-inches long.

The linked article details the installation process for the GMC Sierra; you will need to locate the tow package wiring under the dash and make four wire connections. Tow package wire to pigtail wire connections are as follows: Red vehicle wire to Black pigtail wire; Dark Blue vehicle wire to Blue pigtail wire; Light Blue vehicle wire to Red pigtail wire; white wire to white wire. You may also need to make additional wiring connections under the hood in the power distribution box to activate the tow package wiring. This process is detailed with photos in the last section of the linked article.

The installation process for the Ram 3500 is shown in a second linked article; you will use the quick-connect harness # 3021-P to connect to the (usually blue) OEM plug located under the steering wheel, just to the right of the emergency brake pedal. You may need to install fuses in the power distribution box in the engine compartment. Any fuse receptacles labeled trailer or tow should have the indicated value fuse installed.
