Can I Tow A 5th Wheel Trailer With A 2004 Chevy Avalanche?

Question:

Have a 2004 Avalanche 2500/8.1 Engine with towing . Someone said I could put a sliding 5th wheel hitch for a small 5th wheel trailer. Is this true?

I do not recommend attempting to pull a 5th wheel with that vehicle. The Avalanche may have adequate towing capacity for smaller 5th wheel campers. My main concern is configuration of the truck bed and that it would not allow turning clearance. That being said I do not offer a 5th wheel hitch install kit that will fit this vehicle. Basically 5th wheel or gooseneck towing with this vehicle would be a no-go.

You can certainly still tow with this vehicle but you would be limited to bumper pull trailers only. For a trailer hitch that can handle the towing capacity of your vehicle I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 14080. This trailer hitch offers a completely no-drill installation, and is rated for upto 10,000 lbs.

If you plan on towing a heavy trailer near the limits of your trucks towing capacity, I recommend addressing the suspension as well. You would benefit greatly from the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TGMRSB4S. This will help to absorb shock and level your ride while you are towing. Overall you will have a much better towing experience with these added on.
