Installing New 7-Way Trailer Connector on Dump Trailer With Different Wire Colors
Question:
I bought a 7 blade traditional whip before noticing the sticker on the dump trailer saying RV wiring. According to what Im reading on your website - I should be able to switch out the old RV whip for the Traditional replacement I bought. Sooo just ignore the wire coloring and go by the description of the wires - like the red and yellow wires for Left turn and stop go into the same blade - correct?

That is correct. As long as you make sure the functions match you won't have a problem. For example, a connector like the # H20043 uses a red wire for the left turn/stop which follows the RV Standard. To connect to the traditional SAE you would hook it onto the yellow wire which is also left turn/stop just like you said. Since the trailer is marked with RV standard wiring it is probably safe to assume the colors correspond with the following:
Green: Tail/running lights
Yellow: Reverse Lights
Brown: Right turn/brake light
White: Ground wire
Blue: Brake controller output
Black: Battery hot lead
Red: Left turn/brake light
Your standard SAE connector it should use the following:
Green: Right turn/brake light
Yellow: Left turn/brake light
Brown: Tail/running lights
White: Ground wire
Blue: Brake controller output
Black: Battery hot lead
Purple: Reverse lights
Wiring colors aren't always perfect, so if you run into an issue I would trace the wire on the trailer to make sure it matches that function. Your new connector should have some kind of instructions listing the wiring colors so make sure you verify the color and function for this as well. I have attached some diagrams below which show the color and function on the actual connector along with a help article on 7-way wiring for your reference.
