How to Get Length of Trailer Axle Leaf Spring Length When Correct Size is Not Known

Question:

How do you know your spring length? I bought a used 16 dual axle trailer and I think the front springs have been changed. The springs seam to be to short.

If the rear springs are seemingly the correct length you could use them as a length reference. You can verify that the front and rear springs were the same length you could measure the distance between the center and front hanger as well as rear to center and that dimension should be the same. You'd need to get the dimension when there isn't a load on the trailer. You'll also need to know the axle capacity.

Another way is to measure from the front hanger bolt center to the center of the bolt hole on the equalizer that the spring would attach to with a shackle. If you go with a spring just a little longer than that you'd be good. Like around 1/4 inch longer or so.

I attached a link to all of the leaf springs we carry as well.
