Can I Upgrade My 3,500 lb Leaf Springs To 5,000 lb Springs If The Measurements Match?
Question:
I am looking to replace my leaf springs on my trailer. It is a single axle rated at 3500 lbs. Is there anything wrong with using the 5000lbs springs if the measurements all match? Just looking to go a bit heavier duty than what was on there from the factory.

Hey Kevin thanks for your question. There is not much downside to going with the 5,000 lb springs instead of the 3,500 lb. A higher rated spring may make the ride a bit more "chunky" at times, since the spring would not flex as easily. Other than that, the springs can definitely be upgraded as long as the eye-to-eye length matches. So if the current springs measure 25-1/4" long eye-to-eye when not under a load, the 4-Leaf Spring # e44SR will be the one.
Keep in mind though, that upgrading the springs does not increase the weight capacity of the trailer. The weight capacity will still be limited to whatever the lowest rated component of the system is, whether it be the axle, hubs, brakes or trailer frame, all of which are likely rated for a max of 3,500 lbs.
