Is The Dutton-Lainson TW4000 StrongArm Electric Winch A Suitable Replacement For DL1100A Hand Winch?

Question:

I am planning to replace my DL1100A manual winch with the DL-25200 one. Will the DL-25200 mount on the same base as the DL-1100a is mounted on now? Looks like the electric winch mounting footprint is about 9-1/16 x 3-5/8. Existing footprint of the 1100A is 5 x 3-3/8. I have a 2018 Lowe FS pro16.5WT boat on a Lowe trailer. Estimated weight of boat ,motor and fuel is approximately 2350-2500 lbs. I believe the winch will handle the weight, but will the width and height of the electric winch interfere when boat is pulled up into front roller? What about the DL-24055 adapter plate? Needed or not? thanks for any info you can share with me

In most cases the Dutton-Lainson TW4000 StrongArm Electric Winch # DL25200 can be used to replace the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15103. Both these have mounting holes which run down the center of the mounting plate for attaching to most boat towers. And while your hand winch has a smaller footprint the 7" handle is still going to give you a good representation of the overall size of the electric winch. As long as your handle has clearance you should not have any issues with fitment but will need to drill the additional mounting hole with the larger base. The electric winch is rated for boats up to 4,000lbs.

I do like using the Dutton-Lainson Mounting Adapter Plate # DL24055 as it will allow you to easily remove the winch while in storage or parked at the lake. This will reduce the chances of someone taking it while you are on the lake or while it is being stored at a lot over the winter.

The Dutton-Lainson Winch Cover # DL24051 will help protect the winch from UV damage if it is stored outside.
