Parts Needed to Add Brakes to 2018 Carry-On Trailer

Question:

My trailer does not have brake flanges. I am thinking a full axle may be necessary. I see dexter axles that may do the trick. I do not see with the self-adjusting brakes. Is there a replacement axle for the 3K7258 with self-adjusting or no.

Based on what I have found, the 3K7258 axle is a standard 3,500 lb axle. To add brakes to your Carry-On trailer you will need the following:

-Hub and Drum Assemblies: Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3.5K Axles # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K

-Brake Assemblies: Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting # AKEBRK-35-SA

-7-Way Wiring: Hopkins 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # HM20048 (If you want a junction box use # 3375601101)

-Breakaway Kit: Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 20400

If you don't have a brake controller for your vehicle I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR. This mounts out of sight with only the control knob visible in the cab of your vehicle. If you let me know what vehicle you have I can see if a custom wiring harness is available for installation.

Thank you for the picture of the axle tag. Your 2018 Carry-On trailer axle has a hub face measurement of 72" and a 58.5" spring center length. When replacing the axle, in addition to the capacity it is important to match the hub face length to what you currently have. I do have a solution for you, but unfortunately we don't have a 72" 3,500 lb replacement axle. The first option is to add a brake flange to your existing axle using the Brake Mounting Flange for 2-3/8" Round Axle # 4-35. This requires a special jig for installation so you will need to take it to a certified welder with the proper tools for installation. The other option is the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR3500S05. This system would replace your axle and leaf springs which would upgrade your suspension. This system fits any frame width so you don't have to worry about matching your current axle length. This will work with the previously mentioned hubs and brake assemblies or you can get the # A35RS545E which includes them.
