The Derale Replacement Push-In Radiator Probe for Derale Single-Stage Thermostat Fan Control, part # D16736, is a thermostatic probe that is inserted into the vehicles radiator and connects to a thermostat switch. The probe will register the temperature of the fluid in the radiator and allow the switch to turn the fan on if the temperature exceeds 180 degrees, and will turn the fan off when the temperature drops to 165 degrees.

On the Derale Premium, Single-Stage Thermostat Fan Control with Push-In Radiator Probe - 180 Degrees, part # D16738 the Derale radiator probe is threaded onto the thermostat switch. Next, you will insert the probe/thermostat assembly into the fins of the radiator until the thermostat switch is flush with the radiator. Then, install the foam pad onto the end of the probe and use the retaining clip to hold the probe in place. For best results it is recommended to install the probe as close as possible to the water inlet of the radiator.

See picture at the right that will show how the probe is installed in the radiator.
