How Tight Should Nuts of Curt Weight Distribution Replacement Lift Chain U-Bolts Be

Question:

Should these bolts be tightened down so it pinches the first link of the chain tight so it does not move? Or should the be snug enough to allow that last link to float? My chain failed because it had worn thin at the ubolt.

You would not want to tighten the nuts of the Curt Weight Distribution Replacement Lift Chain U-Bolts part # C17111 to the point that the link isn't able to move anymore. You will want to allow the chain to move in the U-bolt. The reason the nuts are lock nuts is because of this. You want the lock nuts to engage on the U-bolt so that they won't come off but not to point it restricts any movement.
