Troubleshooting A B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch That Does Want To Fully Sit In Chevy Pucks

Question:

Hi, I just upgraded our 2020 GMC 2500 short bed Denali with a 2022 Chevy High Country 3500 long bed dually to accommodate the weight of our fifth wheel camper. We were using the BWRVK3775 in the GMC and I just installed it in the new Chevy. The issue that I have is both rear castle nuts had to be adjusted to where I am not able to put the cotter pins back in. Both of the puck arms will rotate and lock with the pin between the front and rear arms and I tried using a wrench on the two castle nuts to tighten them but still not able to the cotter pins. Im hoping that if I put the weight of the trailer on the hitch it will settle down so that I can re-adjust those two castle nuts. Is there something I am missing with this or something else that I should be doing? Thanks for your help!

If your B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3775 is sitting so high that the castle nuts can't get the cotter pin through that leads me to believe that the feet aren't fully sitting into the pucks. I recommend checking the pucks for any burrs or debris that could be preventing the feet from fully sitting in them.

I don't really recommend hooking up while the cotter pins are out but you can have a couple of beefy guys sit/press against the hitch to get it down further into the pucks before trying to lock them in place. I wouldn't say that you're missing anything but I have installed a few of these and sometimes the spacing of the pucks is just slightly off and it makes it a nightmare to try and sit it in.
