Is 5-1/2 Inches of Clearance Between 2021 F-250 Bed and 5th Wheel Okay

Question:

I have a BW patriot slider in a 2021 F250 FX4. If I put the hitch at the lowest setting and pin box at the highest position I only have 5.5” of clearance between bed rail and bottom edge of trailer but that’s where trailer is the most level. BW recommends at least 6” which I achieve at the next position up on the hitch but then the trailer is obviously nose high. The slightly nose high also makes my rear landing gear very close to dragging when going through intersections with drainage dips. Should I remain nose high and have my rear landing gear adjusted higher or lower hitch to lowest position?

Thank you for the photo and description! We recommend having 5" - 6" of clearance between the top of your bed rails and the overhang of your 5th wheel trailer. Since you're sitting at 5-1/2" with the B&W Patriot # BWRVK3270 at the lowest setting you should be just fine for clearance, especially if it means your trailer is most level.

If you'd rather have your trailer a little nose-high (which is acceptable as long as it isn't too bad) that should be okay as well but you definitely need to get something figured out with your landing gear. The only issue with the landing gear problem is that usually landing gear has to be installed in specific locations so you'll need to check up on that too. If your landing gear can't be moved around at all then lowering the clearance to 5-1/2" is the best way to go.
