Replacement Hubs and Bearings for Hyde Drift Boat Trailer With Dexter Axle

Question:

Hi, I have a Hyde drift boat trailer that is about 20 years old now. It looks like it has a Dexter P-15 Model SLR axle, serial # D4194687. I will be taking it across country this summer and I want to have the hubs and bearings replaced to make sure they are in tip-top shape before this long trip. Can you specify the parts I would need for this? Thank you

In order to find the correct replacement hubs and bearings for your trailer you will need to take some measurements. Unfortunately Dexter was unable to identify your axle so that is the only way to identify the parts. In order to do this you will need to remove the wheels and hubs to check out your bearings.

Your bearings may have part numbers stamped in the side. If that is not the case, you will need to measure the inner diameter of the bearings or the spindle where the bearings ride. Once you know which bearings you have you will be able to find the correct replacement hubs. I have attached a helpful diagram below which shows where to measure.

The other thing you will need to know is the bolt pattern on your hubs and whether or not you have brakes. You will want to match your current bolt pattern on the replacement. If you do not have brakes then you just need idler hubs. If you do have brakes then you will need a hub and drum assembly.

For example, if you found that you have the standard bearings for a 3,500 lb axle, which are the # L68149 inner and # L44649 outer, and had a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern with brakes, you could use the # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K.

I have attached links to our bearings as well as our hub and drum assemblies. You can filter the bearings down by inner diameter. Once you have identified the bearings you can filter the hubs down based on the bearings you have. I have also attached some helpful articles on hubs and bearings for your reference.
