Anti-Rattle Recommendation For Trailer Hitch Receiver

Question:

Hi. I just finished the install of the etrailer trailer hitch receiver # e98912 onto my 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. Relatively easy install. Love the hidden look, although some of the clearance of the lower bumper plastic is very tight. Almost touching in places. My question relates to the hitch pin. I was disappointed to find that there was not a second hole Like the Draw-Tite receiver I had on my 2017 Crosstrek so I could use the Draw-Tite 63201 J-Pin Anti-Rattle Pin and Barrel Lockset. Can I simply drill a hole in the receiver so I can use the J-Pin that I already have? Or is there a better anti-rattle/pin option you would recommend? Thank you

There are a couple of good anti-rattle options for you, but definitely do not drill a hole into the receiver as it can compromise it. So what you can do is either add a clamp-on style stabilizer, or an anti-rattle hitch pin lock, depending on the style you prefer:

- etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Stabilizer for 2" Hitches # e99007

- Stainless Steel Locking, Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin for 2" Trailer Hitches # SR25219

I like the hitch pin because it gives you the benefit of a lock as well, or you could even use both if you like to get the absolute best of both worlds.
