Before installing a brake controller to your 2006 Ford Van, you need to have a 4-way and a 7-way wiring harness installed. First, you need to install the 4-way. If you need a 4-way harness, I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness - 4-Way # HM11140495. Once the 4-way is installed, you are ready for the 7-way. If you need this harness, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers # ETBC7. With the # ETBC7, you will be able to splice in the harness to your current wiring setup on the van.
As far as a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 39510. The Voyager is a traditional-style controller that provides you with proportional action. This is beneficial because some brake controllers include a timed-delay that makes the brakes activate after an interval of time. The Voyager also allows for Fine-tune adjustments for braking power and aggressiveness.
If you have a factory tow package on your vehicle, the plug-in harness you need is the # 3035-P for the port under your dash. If you are using the # ETBC7 for installation, the harness you need is the # 20127.
