Trailer Brakes Do Not Activate with Brake Pedal Using Voyager Controller on a 2012 Nissan Xterra
Question:
I have been using a voyager brake controller on my 2012 Nissan Xterra with a Casita railer for over a year with no problem. Currently the trailer brakes wonr activate from the Xterra brakes. The controller seem to work normal otherwise. Green light when connected, slide control causes light to change to red. Brakes on trailer work while diving using the slide control only. Checked battery connection and ground, OK. Brake switch on Xterra is working normallycheck with ohm meter

Usually when a brake controller does not work with the brake pedal that indicates a problem on the red wire. The connection at the red wire will need to be examined and possibly reconnected. You may also have a blown stop light or CHMSL fuse that you can change. Use the vehicle owners manual to find the fuse locations.
If everything checks out with the vehicle including power to the brake controller along the red wire when you step on the brake pedal then there is a problem inside the brake controller and it will need to be replaced. I have included a link to our FAQ article on troubleshooting brake controller installations for you.
