Recommended Supplemental Braking System For A 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

Question:

Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate being able to ask an expert opinion. May I ask you why you prefer the Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System - Proportional over the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink Monitor - Proportional? Also, thank you for the recommendation of the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar. I was leaning toward the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar w/ LED Lights - RV Mount - 8K. Would you also recommend that one?

The Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System w/ Wireless Coachlink Monitor - Proportional # DM86VR and Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # HM39530 are very similar systems with only a few differences. The first one being the cost, the # DM86VR has a higher cost than the # HM39530. The # HM39530 comes with a charge line kit which will keep your vehicle's battery charged, whereas the # DM86VR would require you to purchase a charge line kit like the # RM-156-25 separately.

The coach brake light must be on for the # DM86VR system to activate the towed car's brakes whereas the # HM39530 is going to activate the brakes proportionally to your coach's brakes using an inertia sensor. For example if you slam on the brakes in your RV, your towed car's brakes will activate with that same harsh intensity and if you gradually slow down as you approach a red light, your car will steadily brake in the same light manner.

The controller for the # HM39530 also doubles as a trailer brake controller so you can use it to pull a boat trailer, utility trailer, etc. without having to purchase a separate brake controller.

The # HM39530 is going to mount in the cab of the your Jeep and is quite bulky whereas the # DM86VR will mount in the engine bay with a small actuator and G-Force controller in the cab. If space is an issue the # DM86VR has the # HM39530 beat.

Both of these are great options but for these reasons I personally go with the # HM39530. There's nothing wrong with going with the # DM86VR if that's what you'd prefer though. If you do prefer the # DM86VR you will need the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 which will have 6-way to 7-way adapter cable and port for your vehicle or the Roadmaster Wiring Kit with Smart Diodes for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights # RM47ZR and Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit # RM-146-7 if you have ParkSense Proximity Sensors.

For the tow bar the Nighthawk # RM-676 is the upgraded version of the Falcon All-Terrain # RM-522. It comes with safety cables, LED light for easy hookup or disconnect in the dark, and a 6-way to 7-way adapter cable included unlike the # RM-522. It also has a higher weight capacity at 8,000lbs versus the Falcon's 6,000lbs capacity. If you prefer the extra features then the Nighthawk is definitely the way to go. If you choose the Nighthawk you will not need the safety cables I recommended before.

For your 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon I recommend the Brake Buddy Stealth Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # HM39530. This system offers fully proportional braking with a system that never has to be removed, replaced, or reset. The actuator installs out of sight and remains virtually invisible when your car isn't being towed. The controller also works as a trailer brake controller so you won't have to purchase one separately if you need to tow a trailer with your Leisure Travel Van. This system applies the towed vehicle's brakes in proportion to the braking action of the RV. The towed car's brakes are activated at the same time and with the same intensity as those in your motorhome. The built-in battery protection keeps your towed vehicle's battery charged as you tow so you never have to worry about the battery being dead when you reach your destination. If you haven't already gotten a tow bar, base plate, tow bar wiring kit, and safety cables then I have the following recommendations for you: Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-522. This tow bar features non-binding latches and a large hookup radius to make connecting and disconnecting your vehicle on any terrain a breeze. Base Plate: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521453-5. These base plates are compatible with a factory steel or plastic bumper, if you have a different bumper then let me know and I can find the correct fit for you. The arms of these base plates are removable for a clean look when not in use. Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152 This diode kit allows you to use your Jeep Wrangler's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV. If you have ParkSense proximity sensors then you will need the Roadmaster Wiring Kit with Smart Diodes for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights # RM47ZR instead. Safety Cables: RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000lbs # RM-643. The coiled design of these cables will help prevent them from dragging on the ground and being damaged. You may also require a high/low adapter to keep your tow bar level between your Jeep and Van. This will require you to do some measuring so I've attached our help guide article to help walk you through the steps of determining the correct rise/drop.
