How Difficult Is It To Install The Hidden EcoHitch EH53VR On A 2019 Toyota Prius LE
Question:
I just returned from my Stokes Toyota Dealer in Bluffton, SC / Hilton Head Stokes Toyota, and they said itd cost $700 to install this hitch. Their hourly rate is $135./Hr. They said theyd have to take the rear bumper all the way off and also remove the front bumper due to all the radar, laser, camera, and related wiring. This is over twice the expected cost, according to both etrailer.com and this same Toyota service department. Does this sound plausible to anyone? EH53VR Ecohitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - 2inch 2019 Toyota Prius LE Thank You! - Id really like to get this hitch installed so I can use my hitch bike rack, NO towing at all, just bike rack for 2 bikes.

As the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch # EH53VR does install behind a rear cross member/support on your 2019 Toyota Prius LE, it does require the removal of the rear bumper in its entirety, unfortunately. I included an install video we did of the Curt # C11473 for you to take a look at as it will install much the same way (we haven't had the chance to install the # EH53VR yet). However, there is no reason to remove the front bumper since it has nothing to do with the rear bumper. Also, disconnecting the wiring involves disconnecting one plug that connects the bumper to the vehicle, so even with this being a more difficult install, $700 definitely sounds high.
With that being said, I always recommend checking with an auto shop you trust and have had good service at in the past. They will do just as good a job as the dealer and will almost always have better prices. It never hurts to shop around though.
