Troubleshooting New Trailer Brakes that Don't Feel Strong
Question:
Hello eTrailer - I just replaced both brakes on my 2016 R-Pod 172 with AKEBRK-35L-SA and AKEBRK-35R-SA. With the old ones, I went from only the left working well, to lock up, if I squeezed the controller and the right not noticeably working barely magnetizing. With the new ones both are working, but I have to adjust the gain up to 10 and they still will not lock up the brakes, if I try. I can squeeze the brake controller and I can feel them working, but it is like 10-20 power. I adjusted them at the beginning, so the wheel would spin with some engagement and would stop in 1 revolution or less. Do I need to adjust more? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

The brake assemblies you have installed # AKEBRK-35L-SA and # AKEBRK-35R-SA are self adjusting and can take several initial applications for them to feel like they are grabbing hard. What I would recommend you do is find an empty parking lot and at a slow speed grab the manual override of your brake controller repeatedly as with each application it will click tighter until you start to feel it grab harder.
