Correct Way to Turn Star Wheel When Adjusting Electric Brakes
Question:
The right side brake heats up a bit so I adjusted the star wheel and loosened it by moving the teeth upward. Your video says move the teeth downward to loosen the brakes. Is the rotation of the star wheel different depending on what side of the trailer youre working on ? If I move the teeth downward the brake tightens so the tire wont move. I have a Lippert axle. thanks

Expert Reply:
You should be turning the star wheel up to tighten your brakes and turning it down to loosen the brakes.
Since you are doing the opposite, it could mean the brakes are improperly mounted and I recommend taking a look at your brake assemblies to see how they were put on. While this means disassembling your hub you do want to ensure your brakes were correctly put on your trailer.
I've added a link to a video which shows how 12" Dexter brakes should be installed for you to use as a reference.
