Will Using Leaf Springs With A Different Amount Of Leaves Be Okay On My 2018 Vanleigh 5TH Wheel?

Question:

The factory setup on my 2018 Vanleigh 370GB with 7k axles have 6 leafs and are already flattened out and now with some tire rubbing. No history of overloading on the rig. Its been suggested I add 7 leaf spring packs to the rig. I noticed the leafs on the RM-2460-2570 only have 5 leafs. How will the leaf springs on the RM-2460-2570 hold up when replacing a 6 leaf factory set up. Also, would a set of SUMO springs help?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The number of leaves on a leaf spring is not the only determining factory in the amount of weight it can handle. The thickness of each leaf as well as what the leaf is made out of can affect the weight rating and performance of the spring.

The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit # RM-2460-2570 does use 5 leaves that are 3/8" thick. Each spring is rated for 3,500lbs which is 7,000lbs per axle. This kit upgrades your suspension by allowing the axles to act independently of each other and adds shock absorbers to absorb road shock and vibration. This will make for a smoother ride inside your 2018 Vanleigh Vilano 370GB 5th wheel camper.

The SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # SS26MV helps your suspension by taking some of the trailer weight off of the leaf springs and transferring to the frame of the trailer. It is a progressive spring that will also help to absorb road shock in the suspension system. This kit is specifically designed for overslung axles with a capacity of 5,000-8,000lbs like on your Vanleigh.
