Difference Between Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit K71-448-00 & K71-359-00
Question:
Trying to understand the difference between Dexter K71-448-00 and Dexter K71-359-00. Will the K71-448-00 give me more height? the frame has dents in it from the axle hitting it. How do I know if my springs are worn?

Excellent question, and the difference between the two kits comes down to the dimensions of the equalizers. What you will want to do is match up the size of your equalizer with the size of the equalizer in these kits.
- 6" Long, 4" Tall Equalizer: Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit # K71-448-00
- 5-3/4" Long, 2" Tall Equalizer: Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit # K71-359-00
Both kits are otherwise for use with tandem axle trailers that have 1-3/4" wide double-eye leaf springs. You won't get more height out of using just a taller equalizer, they do need to match what you currently have in order for your suspension to maintain the way your suspension performs, or you would need to replace your entire suspension, including hangers.
In regards to springs, they would need to be replaced if they are damaged, such as if there is a crack in them, if they are sagging considerably, or if there is an overabundance of rust. Some slight corrosion or rust is normal, and you would know excessive rust if you saw it as there would be obvious signs of corrosion eating away at the springs.
