Why Do Hitches Available for 2021 Chevy TrailBlazer Have Higher Capacity Than Vehicle Itself

Question:

Can you tell me what the maximum towing capacity is for the 1.3 L V3 2021 Chevrolet TrailBlazer is? I am interested in purchasing your 2-in receiver kit however in my user manual it says that the max towing capacity is 1,000 lb. I am having a hard time believing that when your site says that the kit will tow 3,500 lb. Can you please clarify what the vehicle will tow?

You are correct, the towing capacity of your TrailBlazer is 1000 lbs.

It's actually very common for a trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite # DT29MR to have a higher capacity than the vehicle itself for a couple of reasons.

• The hitch companies capacity test the hitches independently of the vehicle. The hitch is actually bolted to a
test stand instead of a vehicle.

• The hitch companies know that folks routinely tow more than their vehicles are rated for, either
intentionally or unintentionally. The hitch companies will typically design the hitch with a higher capacity so
that if something fails, it won't be the hitch.

If you do decide to tow with the hitch, you'll need a trailer wiring harness like # TK39FR, a ball mount like # D-28 and a # PC3 hitch pin as well as a trailer ball. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use # 19260 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.

I've linked to install videos for both the hitch and the trailer wiring harness.
