Hardware And Track Interchangeability For 2018 Honda CR-V

Question:

Hi, Some questions about Thule Top-tracks and Yakima Tracks. 1. Can the Yakima and Thule foot packs be used interchangeably between these two track systems? Or, are the tracks physically different? 2. Have the Thule Top Tracks changed since 2009? I have 2 full Thule rack systems 8 foot packs, 4 bars, and numerous accessories from my previous vehicle and I would like to use them on my new vehicle using the Thule Top tracks or Yakima tracks if they are interchangeable. 3. Is there a preference/benefit between using flare-nuts vs plus-nuts? If so, can the Thule Top-Tracks be installed with the plus-nuts instead of flare-nuts? 4. My new vehicle is a 2018 Honda CR-V with a bare roof. Are there any known spots on the roof where holes should not be drilled based on your experience? Thank you,

I will answer these questions for you in order.

1.Yakima and Thule both have towers/feet that work with track systems. Each of their tower/feet models use a specific fit kit for those track systems.

2.The Thule Top Tracks have not changed since 2009.

3.With regard to plus-nuts, you can use plus nuts in place of flare nuts, but it may void your warranty.

4. I do have years of roof rack installation experience, but I have not done any of the custom applications, such as Top Tracks. Thule recommends using a professional to install the Top Tracks specifically because of their knowledge of your vehicle's roof.

If you have the correct fit kit for the track system, the corresponding towers/feet it will work. Those fit kits are;

Fit Kit for Thule Podium-Style Roof Rack Feet - 3101, part # THKIT3101 and
Landing Pad 1 for Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers - Qty 2, part # Y00221.

The Thule foot you need is the Rapid Podium Feet for Thule Crossbars - Fixed Point - Qty 4, part # TH460R. Please keep in mind that Thule no longer uses their old square crossbars. Their redesigned crossbars all mount with a channel, which is on the bottom of the crossbar, even the square crossbar. These new crossbars are backwards compatible, but the old crossbars do not work with the new towers.

I have included product description links below. I have included a picture of the old Thule Podium Foot.
