High Rise Cargo Carrier Solution for Ground Clearance
Question:
Can this product be used with a gear basket rated to hold 500lbs? I want to get a little more clearance from a hitch mounted gear basket, but the only high rise ones I can find seem weak. I figured if your product BX88132 can tow up to 5,000 lbs it might be able to handle 500 lbs in basket? Please advise.

We don't have any great hitch adapter solutions that you could use to add additional rise to the hitch setup you are using to carry your hitch mounted cargo carrier. Doing so adds quite a bit of movement to the hitch setup and cuts the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. So your best option is to go with a cargo carrier that has a higher rise built into the shank.
The enclosed cargo carrier that currently has the highest rise in the shank is the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier # M2205 which has a shank rise of 5-1/2 inches. This is a carrier rated for 450 lbs.
