Comparison of Curt Hitch # C13119 and Draw-Tite Hitch # 75742 on 2013 Honda CRV
Question:
Q1. Other than the minor differences in listed tongue weights, are you aware of any major differences between the Draw-Tite and Curt hitches? Example: Maybe one or the other requires less/more or easier underpanel fit/trimming? Q2: Both hitches look like they have similar physical installations, but curious about how much plastic cutting is required for each of them? Q3: What might you consider to be the pro/cons for each of the two Class-III hitches offered for 2013 CRV? Q4: Is there a cutting template with the instructions? Plastic cutting video? Note: One feedback comment was made regarding having to cut too much material Going to travel in snow country often, so want maximum underbody protection. Please explain details if able. Thanks. The Installation videos for hitches and wiring were VERY good Thank you.

The comparison of the Curt Class III 2-Inch Hitch, part # C13119, and the Draw-Tite Class III 2-Inch Hitch, part # 75742, for the 2013 Honda CRV is very similar. The tongue weight difference of 350 lbs for the Curt and 525 lbs for the Draw-Tite would be one of the biggest differences.
Also, if you will be using the hitch to haul a hitch accessory like a bike rack or cargo carrier, the warranty on the Curt hitch does require the use of a stabilizing strap like the Curt Support Strap, part # 18050. The idea is that the strap will help support a non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) to reduce some of the stress on the hitch. The Curt hitch is still a good product and the strap is meant to help ensure good performance. I am including a link to a video review on the Curt support strap.
Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, and Reese hitches do not have this strap requirement. These hitches undergo supplemental testing that is not required by law to ensure they can withstand the stresses they are rated for.
The installations of the two hitches are very similar, only a slight difference in where the under body trimming will be done. There are not any cutting templates with the instructions but I am including links to the installation instructions on both hitches that will show the area on the underside of the CRV that will need to be trimmed. The Curt hitch shows to remove a 3.25 inch x 7 inch section of the under car appearance panel and the Draw-Tite hitch shows to remove a 4.25 inch x 8.5 inch section.
I would recommend to use the Draw-Tite hitch because of the higher tongue weight rating and not having to use a support strap if I decide to carry a bike rack or cargo carrier on my hitch. The amount of under car panel being trimmed between the two hitches is very close so I do not consider that a determining factor.
