Locating Brake Controller Connector on 2013 Toyota Tacoma with Factory Tow Package

Question:

My 2013 tacoma has the seven pin plug and is tow ready, however there is no brake controller plug under the dash. Can I hard wire this in and can you send a wiring diagram on how to install it. It came with an adapter from toyota but I could not find the mate under the dash above the emergency brake pedal, I have a prodogy controler which I used on my frontier and it worked great. Hoping to hear from you soon. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks for your time.

Since your 2013 Toyota Tacoma has a factory tow package, including a 7-way connector at the back bumper, it will have a brake controller connector.

While it is usually visible above the emergency brake pedal, it may sometimes be taped or zip-tied to other wiring. You can try checking further up under the dash panel. If not there, the connector may be tucked in behind the left hand kick panel. Please refer to the attached photo.

The Tekonsha installation instructions for the P2, part # 90885 and wiring adapter # 3040-P. These indicate the need to ground the white wire (with ring terminal) to the vehicle chassis. It is usually easiest to do this with the kick panel removed so I suggest temporarily removing this part to both locate the harness/connector and select a suitable spot to secure the ground wire.

In case you need it, we offer a hardwiring kit for brake controllers, part # 5506. I have also linked the instructions for part # ETBC7, which will be helpful if you do choose to hard wire your controller.
