Unless your 5th wheel has the dished in or concave front corners that are specifically designed to provide turning clearance, or your 5th wheel is equipped with a rotating pin box like a Reese Sidewinder/Revolution or a Lippert Turning Point, you'll really need to go with a sliding 5th wheel hitch to provide the proper amount of clearance to avoid a collision between the front of the 5th wheel and the rear of the truck cab.

It's entirely possible that you'll have the proper amount of clearance on flat ground, but if you attempt to make a sharp turn while going uphill or downhill, the angles will change and put the top or the bottom edge of the 5th wheel corner much closer to the truck. Due to the damage that could be caused if the cab and 5th wheel collided, this is absolutely an example where it's better to have a slider and not need it than need it and not have it.

If your 2021 Silverado 2500 short bed has the OEM puck system, the B&W Companion sliding hitch you'd looked at, part # BWRVK3775 would be a great choice. If you have one of the rotating pin boxes mentioned above, you can use the stationary model, part # BWRVK3710.

If you do not have the puck system, and don't have a rotating pin box you could use the B&W Companion Sliding 5th wheel hitch, part # BWRVK3400-5W which would mount to the truck using the B&W Turnover
Ball Gooseneck hitch, part # BWGNRK1020-5W. If you do have a rotating pin box on your 5th wheel, B&W offers the similar Patriot Sliding 5th wheel hitch, part # BWRVK3270 and the bracket/rail kit, part
# BWRVK2505. You'll also need a # SWW-06 wedge to prevent the king pin from rotating in the hitch jaws.

If you're not wanting to use a sliding hitch because of the inconvenience involved (which is completely understandable), Demco offers the Hijacker Autoslide, part # DM8550034 for an 18K capacity or part
# DM8550035 for a 21K capacity along with the # DM6333 adapter for the OEM puck system would work great. Or, if you don't have the puck system you'd use the # DM39FR bracket and rail kit.

The Hijacker Autoslide uses a rack and pinion system that moves the hitch head 14 inches rearward once you've turned about 10-15º. When the turn is complete, the hitch head returns to its forward position.
