Fixed or Sliding Hitch For 2020 Chevy 3500HD Towing A 2020 Grand Design Reflection

Question:

I have a new 2020 Chevy 3500hd Silverado with the factory towing puck system. I have a 2020 Grand Design, Reflection 320mks arriving at the dealer in a couple of weeks. The RV parts manager is telling me if I go with a slider, the pin box on the camper will tear my tailgate up when using the slider. The RV manager suggest going with non slider rvk3710. While reviewing comments on your site, 1 guy bought a slider and mentioned hitting his tailgate. What are your recommendations? Could the RV dealer be blowing smoke up my a*s?

If you have a short bed 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500HD with the factory towing puck system you will want the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package part # BWRVK3775 to make sure you have clearance between the king pin and cab. If you have a long bed the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package part # BWRVK3710 fixed hitch is what you need because the truck bed is long enough to not worry about cab clearance during sharper turns.

The pin box should not tear up the tailgate if you have 6" of clearance between the bed rails/tailgate and the underside of the trailer overhang. If you have less than 6" of clearance most king pin boxes are adjustable vertically to make them longer so you won't have the clearance issue.

If the king pin box is not adjustable I recommend to use a louvered tailgate but we do not carry one for your newer truck at this time.

If you want to use the fixed hitch with a short bed you would need to be very careful when making sharper turns.
