Is Curt Class IV 2 Inch Hitch # 14001 the Correct Width to Fit the Frame Rails on 1983 Ford F-100

Question:

Have a 1983 F-100 that measures 37 1/2inch between the rails. Is the Curt 14001 the correct width for that installation? Thanks

When measuring the frame width on a vehicle, you will need to measure from the outside of one frame rail to the outside of the other frame rail. It sounds like you have the 37-1/4 inch frame on your 1983 Ford F-100.

The Curt Class IV 2 Inch Hitch, part # 14001, will fit the 1983 Ford F-100 truck with the standard or step bumper. The mounting holes on the hitch will measure 36 inches from center to center, so you should have no problem mounting it to the frame rails of your vehicle. I am including a picture that will show the measurements on the hitch.

When installing the hitch the spare tire will need to be lowered or removed temporarily. When reinstalling the spare tire it may need to be repositioned. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt hitch. I am also including a link to a video of this Curt hitch being installed on a 1990 Ford F-150. The truck is different, but the installation would be the same.
