Why Do the Curt Hitches for a 2018 Toyota RAV4 Have A Different Number of Mounting Holes
Question:
Why does the low-profile hitch C13406 have 3 mounting points but the visible hitch C13149 only has two? I was wondering if it would be beneficial to drill the middle mount hole like the C13406 Class 3 hitch for my 2018 Toyota RAV4 XLE to utilize the additional mounting point in the frame rail for the C13149 hitch? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13149 and Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13406 are both great options for a 2018 Toyota RAV4. The former has the receiver tube welded to the cross-member whereas the latter has the receiver tube welded to an extension and then to the cross-member. The extension is a weak point so there needs to be more attachment points for strength.
I can't recommend modifying either hitch nor would it give any additional capacity or benefit.
