Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2016 Toyota RAV4 With Most Ground Clearance

Question:

Hi, I have a 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Back in July 2017, I bought the Curt 13149 hitch from you. The ground clearance for this hitch is fairly low. I measured just 8-3/8 inches from the bottom of the hitch to the ground. This creates a problem in that it scrapes the ground occasionally in the dip where some driveways meet the curb, so Id like to get a hitch that sits higher off the ground. I use the hitch to tow a small boat. The weight limit on my RAV4 is 1750 lbs, and the boat weighs around 1400 pounds. Id appreciate your recommendations for a better alternative. It seems like you have more options now than before. Thanks!

There is a trailer hitch receiver that is going to give your 2016 Toyota RAV4 a bit more clearance than the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13149 you currently have installed, which is another hitch from Curt:

- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13406

When we test fit this hitch on a 2016 RAV4 we found that from the ground to the top inside of the hitch was 14-1/2 inches, which is the most highest clearance of any hitch that fits your RAV4. When you take away about 2-1/2 inches or so to account for the receiver opening and the bottom collar, the bottom of the Curt # C13406 would be approximately 12 inches off the ground.

Keep in mind, this is only an approximation, and your mileage may vary, so to speak. The 8-3/8 inches you mentioned having seems very low compared to the measurements we have for hitches on a '16 RAV4, and things like tire pressure, tire size, or load can account for a difference. So you may not have exactly the same amount of clearance with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13406, though it will give you at least a bit of added height.
