Does 15,000 lb Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution Provide Better Sway Control Than Curt TruTrack
Question:
I currently have a C17501 weight distribution hitch. It works well but my previous Reese seemed to control sway better. I had to upgrade when I bought a new trailer due to exceeding my old WD capacity. Would a Blue Ox BXW1500 or Reese RP66130 be a better fit? If the difference going to a Reese or Blue Ox is negligible then I will just stay with my Curt. My previous set up was Reese 66074 WD with sway control pulling 34ft travel trailer 720 dry tongue weight. Current set up is Curt C17501 pulling 26ft toy hauler 920 dry tongue weight.

This is a really good question, and while the 15,000 lb towing/1,500 lb tongue weight Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System # C17501 is a nice system, the system with the best sway control is indeed the Reese Strait-Line, so there will be an improvement with the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution with Sway Control # RP66130.
The reason why is that while the TruTrack has a nice 4-point system of friction sway control, this is effective by correcting sway, while the Strait-Line essentially stops sway before it starts with its dual-cam system. How it works is the curved end of the spring bars are over the cam and essentially locked in place when towing due to the consistent pressure put on them at all times, so it is always actively controlling the trailer instead of reacting to sway like a friction control system.
So for the best sway control possible I absolutely recommend upgrading to the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution with Sway Control # RP66130. This system does not come with a shank but you can add the Reese Weight Distribution Shank # RP54970 as well as a hitch ball, the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40030.
