Rail Position for a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit on a 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500HD

Question:

I took my rails off my 2010 SHORT BED Silverado. I need to know the distance that they need to be mounted from the rear of the bed to the back of the rail closest to the truck cab in the 2011 2500 HD 4 door 4x4 silverado with a 6 1/2 foot bed that I just purchased. I will be using the heavy duty black angle brackets on the truck frame. On the short bed I thing that it was 47 1/2 inches to the rear of the front rail, but Im not sure. I emailed you a few days ago but you gave me the distance using the custom fit installation kit # RP50066-58. BUT I AM USING THE HEAVY DUTY BLACK ANGLE BRACKETS NOT THE KIT.

There are a couple of 5th wheel installation kits that use L-shaped angle brackets that also fit the 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500. First was kit 30095, now discontinued. On it the measurement from the rear edge of the bed to the back of the rear most rails is 25-3/16 inches. The rails will be spaced approximately 21-13/16 inches apart on center so the total to the back of the front rail will be approximately 47 inches from the rear edge of the bed. I have linked instructions for you.

The other installation kit with L-brackets is # RP30035. On a short bed it measures 25-1/4 inches from the rear edge of the bed to the back of the rear rail. So adding the rail spacing the approximate distance to the rear edge of the front rail will be 47-1/16 inches. I have linked the instructions for this kit as well.

On any kit, once you have the rear rail in the correct position you can use the hitch to position the forward rail.
