Will Adding a Trailer Hitch to my 2020 Honda Fit Sport Void the Warranty

Question:

Hello there...... I am looking to put a trailer hitch on my 2020 Honda fit sport. The hitches that are available for my car on this site do not specify if they will fit on my sport model. I am pretty sure that our bumper is a bit different than the Regular version 2020 Honda Fit. So just wanted to make sure there will be enough clearance before I buy. Just curious if it will still work with my model? And if so will putting a trailer hitch on my vehicle void my manufacturer warranty? Thanks so much ..... hope to hear from you soon.

I'll start off by saying that the Magnuson-Moss warranty act that states, in part, that unless the part added actually causes a problem, then installation and use of the part will not void the warranty; so basically, adding a trailer hitch will not void the factory warranty on your vehicle as long as it's not the cause of a malfunction.

With that said, I recommend using the Curt # C11406, which is confirmed on the 2020 Honda Fit-including the Sport models. This hitch will sit below the bumper and has been confirmed by the manufacturer not to interfere with any potential differences in the bumpers between trim packages. Curt hitches have an extremely durable and thick powder coat which helps them withstand the rigors of being attached to the rear of your vehicle over time, so it'll stand up well to nicks and scratches.

To tow a trailer, there are some other parts you'll need like a trailer wiring harness, ball mount and hitch ball. For the wiring I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One # 118767 wiring harness, which offers a plug and play installation. We've found that the Tekonsha harnesses have the most reliable converter boxes over time and will help prevent any feedback from the trailer from damaging the electronics in your vehicle.

For a ball mount you'll want to use something like the Curt Class II Drawbar - 2-5/8" Rise, 3-1/4" Drop - 7-1/4" Long - 3,500 lbs # C45521, which can provide you with either a rise or drop to tow your trailer level and will fit in the above mentioned Curt hitch. You'll also need a hitch pin and clip, which is available with part # F-4. For a hitch ball, you'll need one with a 3/4" shank; if you need a 1-7/8" hitch ball you can use the # A-80 and for a 2" hitch ball you'll want to use the # A-82.

I've linked an installation video of the hitch and some part reviews of the parts mentioned in this answer for you to have a look at, as well.
