Brake Controller Installation on a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab
Question:
I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab. The vehicle has the tow package, with the 7-pole RV-style plug already installed. To install a trailer brake controller, will I only need to connect to the existing wiring harness under the dash or will I need to make connections under the hood as well? Thanks.

More often than not, the connections under the hood of your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will need to be made to complete the installation for a brake controller. I have heard of some occasions where these connections were made at the factory, but it would be wise to double check.
Once you have the brake controller wired to the brake control harness in your cab, check for the brake control wire and the battery charge wire under the hood. The brake control wire will be located to the right of the fuse box between the fuse box and the driver side fender. The battery charge wire will be located under the master cylinder. If you already have 12 volt power running to your 7-way trailer connector, then the battery charge wire may already be connected.
I have attached an FAQ article that explains how to install a brake controller on your truck for you to check out.
