Will Load Range E Tires Be Sufficient for my Wildwood 29 vbud Trailer with 9710 GVWR
Question:
I am looking to replace my Castle Rocks on my new Wildwood 29vbud but getting some conflicting information from my local tire shop as I am sure they dont get many travel trailers in. My dry weight is 7,728 ,fully loaded 9,710. Tow vehicle is a 2019 RAM 1500 Quad cab with air bags and WDH. They recommended Hi Run WD1388 E rated, but something seems amiss when I look at the load ratings for those tires,

Assuming that your travel trailer is a tandem axle and your tires are ST225/75R15, something like the Westlake ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # LHWL304, which is a Load Range E tire would work well. This particular tire has a capacity of 2,830-lbs per tire, which used on a tandem axle trailer would give you a total capacity of 11,320-lbs, so it's well within the GVWR of 9710-lbs.
With that said, tire load ratings will be different between tire sizes; a Load Range E tire that is 225/75R15 is going to be able to handle more weight than a 205/65R10 tire with the same Load Range E. For this reason, you'll want to confirm the maximum capacity on the tires and multiply it by 4 (or 2 if a single axle trailer) to determine the true capacity the tires will give you and whether or not they're going to give you enough capacity.
At the end of the day the Load Range E tires should work for you given the above parameters, but if the tires are smaller, the capacity will change.
